"Midwife means 'with woman.' Women traditionally are thought
of as the
nurturers. In our practice we feel that women, too, need support and personalized
healthcare not only during the critical time of childbirth or illness, but throughout
their lives."
Susan Libbos attended St. Lawrence University on full academic scholarship where she received her B.A. in English and
Education. She earned her certificate in Nursing and her
Masters Degree (M.S.N.) in Nurse-Midwifery from Yale University. Susan has taught
public high school and special programs for troubled adolescents and handicapped young
women, and has served as Clinical Instructor for the Nurse-Midwifery Program at Yale
University School of Nursing. Susan is an experienced childbirth educator, Associate
Professional Staff Member of Baystate Medical Center, and a Member of the American College
of Nurse-Midwives. She has been a practicing Nurse-Midwife in this area for 24 years. She
has always been interested in alternative therapies in healthcare and has studied
massage therapy, mind-body meditation, and yoga, in order to enhance her practice.
Susan enjoys biking, tennis, and travel with her husband and
three children as well as with her large extended family.

"I am intrigued by the mind-body
connection to wellness. I was drawn to women's healthcare at a time
when our guide was "Our Bodies, Ourselves," and Nurse Midwifery
was becoming a real option for childbirth. Now internet resources
can seem overwhelming, but my goal as a nurse midwife is still the same:
to be an advocate for women to take control of their bodies and make
choices for a healthier lifestyle, not only during pregnancy but
throughout all stages of their lives."
Susan Shepherd received her B.A. in English from Wheaton College and her
R.N. from Newton-Wellesley Hospital School of Nursing. She earned both Nurse
Midwifery Certification and a Master's Degree in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins
Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Susan continues to have an interest in medical work in
other cultures sparked by an internship on a Navajo Reservation and work
in Appalachia. She is fluent in Spanish and has provided education
and health care in Peru, and most recently with Proyecto Adames in the Dominican
Republic.
Susan is a Clinical Instructor with Tufts Medical School and
works with medical students, emergency room residents, and nurse midwifery
students at Baystate Medical Center.
She is married to a very understanding man who is tolerant of
her somewhat erratic call schedule. She has two sons who are 20-something,
one following the familial pull to a medical career and the other the dream of
exploring the world.

"Women want the opportunity
to discuss their health concerns in a non-judgmental atmosphere, tailored
to their unique needs and approached in an individualized manner. I
believe that offering educational tools for informed decision-making and
the use of complementary therapies to promote wellness fosters a holistic
approach."
Denise Vincent earned her degree in Nursing from Baystate Medical Center and her
B.S. degree in Nursing from American International College, with high
honors. She received her Master's Degree in Nurse-Midwifery from the
University of Pennsylvania. Denise is a member of the American College of

years of Ob/Gyn healthcare experience, Denise has worked as a labor and
delivery nurse, patient educator, clinical teacher, and practicing Nurse-Midwife
for over 24 years. Her focus is on providing a holistic approach to
women's health from adolescence through menopause using lifestyle, nutritional,
and herbal counseling. She has a special interest in patient education and
wellness seminars, pregnancy care, and holistic perimenopausal/menopausal
management using complementary therapies.
Outside of work, Denise enjoys hiking and cultivating her perennial
garden.
