Mary has been a practicing Nurse Midwife since 1986. Before pursuing her midwifery certification, Mary spent ten years as a labor and delivery nurse, and five years as a newborn intensive care nurse. She is an experienced childbirth educator and has organized many new mother support groups. From 1986 – 1989, Mary was a study group leader in homeopathy. She has also served as the Director of Midwifery Services for a large health maintenance organization in the Springfield area
It’s not a surprise that Mary brought the concept of group prenatal visits (CenteringPregnancy®) into our practice…
"I feel most satisfied as a women’s healthcare provider when I am able to positively impact a woman’s health and overall wellbeing. Centering Pregnancy, the group prenatal care option offered to our pregnant patients, has been an available option in our group since 2009. The women who have chosen this model of care have been very satisfied with the time they have had to discuss pregnancy, healthy habits, childbirth, parenting and women’s issues. They feel supported and empowered and by that, I’m professionally rewarded and invigorated."
Mary believes in educating the future generations of healthcare practitioners and is a clinical preceptor for the Frontier School of Nurse Midwifery. She is a mother of five children and enjoys country living with her husband and younger sons. Hiking, cross country skiing, and learning to play the fiddle are a few of Mary's favorite past times.
