Our practice is pleased to offer Implanon™ as an option for non-permanent birth control. This option involves the insertion of a small subdermal device
(about the size of a matchstick) by one of our providers during a short office visit; once the device is implanted, it requires no daily or monthly intervention and is meant to be effective for a period of three years. The device releases hormones over a three year period that inhibits ovulation, thus inhibiting pregnancy; over clinical trials, Implanon™
was highly effective in preventing pregnancy. If pregnancy is desired, the Implanon™
device can be removed to resume normal fertility.
As with most birth control options, Implanon™ has certain side effects which should be discussed with your provider; one of the most common side effects with Implanon™
is menstrual irregularities.
