Meredith Davis, CNM - Midwife and CenteringPregnancy Facilitator

The providers and staff of Baystate Ob/Gyn Group, Inc. are pleased to recognize Meredith Davis, CNM as the newest member of their All About Women Midwifery group, and most recently welcomed her as a trained facilitator in the practice’s CenteringPregnancy® program.

Meredith has an impressive educational background, which helped build a remarkably strong foundation for her practice of midwifery.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in International Health, magna cum laude from Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Sciences.  Meredith advanced her studies at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, summa cum laude and her Master of Science in Nurse-Midwifery.

Throughout her extensive graduate clinical placements Meredith enriched her classroom learning through important hands on clinical experiences with a special focus on women’s healthcare.  Her professional experience has included diverse work settings ranging from clinical research, to international healthcare, to patient education projects, to doula support services and more.  Meredith’s particular research interests have included uterine fibroids, the psychosocial implications of labor inductions, and malaria in pregnancy.  Meredith’s previous work as a Registered Nurse as well as a doula has provided her with a unique understanding of the irreplaceable value of individualized healthcare, further driving her desire to become a nurse midwife.  Earlier this year Meredith became a CenteringPregnancy® facilitator and finds it particularly rewarding to provide prenatal care to patients in the group setting, a popular option among women seeking a the benefits of patient-centric group care during pregnancy.

Meredith would like her patients to know that "I consider midwifery to be the provision of safe, evidence-based care in a manner that empowers the woman and her family to make informed, shared decisions regarding her health.  I greatly value the formation of client-provider relationships that are rooted in trust and collaboration. Also central to my philosophy of care is that pregnancy and birth are normal and physiologic processes, and that as midwives we should approach women as essentially healthy, while always keeping potential complications in mind. I incorporate midwifery care into my daily interactions with patients by using positive language, by being truly present during visits, and by listening carefully and responding appropriately to what women say."

Dr. Kevin Fitzgerald, Physician Director of Midwifery Services at Baystate Ob/Gyn Group, Inc. commented that “Our midwifery practice continues to evolve and adapt to the changing healthcare environment.  This year marks our 20th anniversary of providing premier midwifery services to women in the Pioneer Valley in our All About Women Midwifery group.  We feel fortunate to be able to maintain the integrity of our midwifery group as a ‘practice within a practice’ offering accessible midwifery care in all four communities in which we have offices - Springfield, East Longmeadow, South Hadley, and West Springfield.  Meredith is a wonderful fit in our popular and well-respected midwifery group.”
