When you are discharged from the hospital, you will receive detailed instructions on how to care for your body during the post partum period. This guidance will differ depending on the type of delivery you had (vaginal or cesarean section.) This information will include one of the following:
The benefits of breastfeeding both for the new mom and baby are well known and we encourage new moms to explore this option thoroughly. Learning how to breastfeed your baby is a process that takes time and patience. Remember that both you AND your baby are learning how to maneuver and become comfortable during feeding times.
Baystate Health offers a wealth of local resources and comprehensive support including breastfeeding consultants, products, classes, and more. Additionally, La Leche League is an international organization with a local chapter, providing education, information, support, and encouragement to women who want to breastfeed.

Post partum depression can affect ANY woman after pregnancy. We are here to help you medically and emotionally. If you are experiencing any signs of depression it is critical for your health and your baby’s health to speak to a healthcare professional. Our nurses and practitioners can provide you with numerous resources, information on support groups, and when necessary, a referral to a specialist. We’re here to provide you with support, guidance, and appropriate medical care.
