Dr. Darlene Vargas Maldonado joined Baystate Ob/Gyn Group, Inc. in 2023 following a fellowship program in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, where she gained precise skills in this specialty within the field of obstetrics and gynecology. In addition to this very specialized training, Dr. Vargas Maldonado’s experiences throughout her full scope ob/gyn education and training have demonstrated her commitment to excellence in women’s healthcare not only from a technical skills perspective but also from a patient-focused approach to providing care for women of all ages, ranging from routine well-woman and obstetrical care to highly complex medical problems.
After earning her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, Dr. Vargas Maldonado attended the Universidad Central del Caribe for her Medical Doctorate and completed her residency at University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. Proudly, Dr. Vargas Maldonado earned numerous distinguished awards during her residency related to excellence in research, teaching, quality, and skills in urogynecology. Dr. Vargas Maldonado’s love of learning is evident through her robust career development initiatives both during and after her formal medical education ranging from internships, leadership conferences and positions, workshops, research presentations, and publications.
Dr. Vargas Maldonado’s clinical interests include pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence, vaginal surgery, abnormal uterine bleeding and pregnancy/postpartum care.
During her career, Dr. Vargas Maldonado has been inspired by a philosophy she learned in training: the needs of the patient come first. This has motivated her to get to know her patients and provide the best evidence based care available for them.

Outside of her busy career, Dr. Vargas Maldonado enjoys spending time with her husband and her young son. She enjoys traveling to different places and experimenting with new cuisines. Dr. Vargas Maldonado likes to keep herself active and enjoys outdoor activities.
