Susan Libbos, CNM

Practicing Nurse Midwife since 1984 and midwife director of All About Women Midwifery.

Appointments available in Springfield Midwifery Suite

**Susan Libbos will be retiring in September, 2016.**

Susan Libbos was the first midwife to join Baystate Ob/Gyn Group, Inc. in 1996 and with steadfast vision and complete physician support from the partners in our group, Susan helped to form and remains the midwife director for our All About Midwifery practice. Her nursing and CNM training at Yale University, where she earned her RN and Master of Science in Nursing degrees, formed a solid base for Sue's career in Nurse Midwifery.

As a graduate of St. Lawrence University on full academic scholarship with a degree in English and Secondary Education, Susan's educational background and work with the developmentally challenged, troubled adolescents, and disabled young women have influenced her clinical practice as she provides support for a woman's physical, emotional, and social needs.  Naturally, education plays a big part in her interactions with patients...

“I expect that my patients will have questions. That’s the part of my job that I love…it is rewarding to be able to take the time to explain something in a way that makes sense and has meaning to the patient so she can make informed decisions that fit her lifestyle. Every woman deserves nothing less than that.”

Sue and her colleagues have a strong belief in providing care for the “whole woman” in the context of her family and social environments. "Midwife means 'with woman.' Women traditionally are thought of as the nurturers. In our practice we feel that women, too, need support and personalized healthcare not only during the critical time of childbirth or illness, but throughout their lives."

Sue has remained passionate about teaching the future generations of nurse midwives, serving as a former Clinical Instructor for the Nurse Midwifery Program at Yale University School of Nursing, the Baystate Midwifery program, and the Frontier Nursing School.  Outside of the office, Susan enjoys biking, tennis, and traveling with her husband and three children as well as with her large extended family.
